Have to stop bashing Cat's now!

Well I took the Cat out for my first ride with it today up by Orrock Sand dunes area. She rode pretty darn nice and had better power then the old 550 Sport Touring. She is a bit of a darter how ever so it's off the Shade Tree tomorrow for a set of Doolys. Also, I am going to have to get the thumb press out and start working the thumb a bit if I am going to make it through a weekend ride with the spring tension on this sled! All and all a pretty nice ride and it should work out great for pulling the porty wink

Leech, go ahead and get dually as they are a nice upgrade but there are some suspension adjustments (free) you could do. Relax the coil over shocks in the front suspension and or loosen front arm shock in rear suspension. Both will help. Also check ski alignment. I always preferred slight toe out which resists darting or following other tracks. Its a fine line between darting and pitch and roll. If the duallys fix your problem now worries.

Thanks Captain, good ideas but none of the shocks on this sled front or rear are adjustable. About the only ride adjustments are the blocks on the rear springs. I could buy some new adjustable shocks but I thought I would try the dooly's first since they are cheaper. I did put a tape on the ski's and they are even front to back so I could try a little toe out on them. Also the limiter strap has no adjustment holes. frown

I will say one thing for the old Polaris Sport Touring is that all shocks front, back and limiter strap were adjustable. I'm sure the dooly's will help, I have used them on another old Polaris I had and they did the trick on that sled very well. Since I don't run studs I'm only going with the 4" carbids on the doolys so I don't get to much rear end drift on the corners. But, it is a 2 up Touring sled and not a SnoPro! wink

Leech, I have a 2002 that I picked up last spring after the snow was gone! Had it out on the lake this past weekend and noticed the darting issue as well. Did the Dooley carbides work better? On fresh snow it worked great! On packed/older tracks it started darting immediately. Or did you find an adjustment that helped?

I just put the Dooleys on last Friday so may run out today after noon by Orock again to see how they work and I will be checking the ski alignement as well before I head out. Report back later this evening! Thanks for the ideas guys. smile

WalleyeChaser, I just took the sled out for a run and man those dooly wear bars worked pretty darn nice! It felt like the front end was tacted down to the trail! I think there going to work out good for me! wink

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Looks like I will buy a set when the ones I have on wear out. And an alignment check! What size did you go with? 4" or 6"?

Since I don't run studs I went with the 4" so I wouldn't get to much tail slide in the corners. Didn't notice any today and I was pushing it to test them out a little more then I usually ride. eek

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
