solbes
Bit of an older thread, but wanted to throw a positive review out for Nils Convertible augers (orange). Tried my brand new 6" out on Saturday up on Coon lake. Hooked it up to my old Craftsman 18V drill on low speed setting. I punched through 24 inches of ice in 17 seconds. I was blown away at how quick and easy it was. Very little torque put on my arms and very little downforce needed. Also switched it over to the manual drilling handle and was able to punch through the ice with that in less than 60 seconds. You could easily drill 4 or 5 holes this way without getting winded. I timed some power augers and it was taking them 20-35 seconds to drill through the same ice.The only real con I see is that your batteries will drain after a certain number of holes. I think I got 11 holes out of my battery in the relatively thick ice. But it was a brand new NiCad battery on its first charge. After it starts accepting a full charge I would expect 15-18 holes on a single battery. No cold starts, no fumes, no oil, no gas to spill, and very quiet. It also does create a lot of slush, but I don't really mind spending an extra minute clearing it out. Anywho I highly recommend Nils augers, Go Finns!
Huey
Has anyone tried the 8" Nils convertible?
sunniewally
YES I HAVE IT. WHEN I GOT IT IT DID NOT WORK SENT IT Frank DeLuca to sharpen it and it works like a charm. I used it the weekend with a Hitachi 18v brushless drill in 22 in of ice with no problem. didn't drill alot of holes but i don't use it for that. but i really like the set up for the wheel house.
