UMC
I have a 2002 Yamaha 60hp tiller that I think needs the lower unit seals replaced (hope I'm using the correct vocabulary there) as the gear lube was pretty milky/watery when I drained it this fall. Obviously it depends on the city but how much money am I probably looking at to get this fixed? Also, I've already winterized my boat, they wouldn't have to "un-winterized" my boat to do this job would they? As you can see I'm very mechanically inclined
morepower02
The first thing we would do is drain your gearcase and perform a psi and vacuum test. It may be as simple as a drain/fill gasket or a prop shaft seal. Worst case shift or driveshaft seal and a couple hundred or more dollars. Savage Brewer
You dot have to "re-winterize" it.Basically any good shop should be able to test for leaks and fix it.The good thing is it is now the off season for outboards, so who knows maybe you will find a shop to do it a bit more reasonable as there isnt a hurry.I want to say I paid somewhere around $250 to do a water impeller, seals and lower unit fill about 3 years ago. The seals are cheap, mostly labor. If the water pump impeller hasnt been done in a few years it might not be a bad idea to have them do that while they have the lower unit dropped.
