English Cocker's first Duck/Grouse/Woodcock weekend

There was a pretty cool article a few weeks back in the Strib, which discussed gun dog breeds- specifically, which is the best breed to hunt with? The article's bottom line really resonated with me-- that there is no best gun dog type, just the one you own & hunt with!

Here's a couple pics from my 10 month old English Cocker. He gave it his all during a three day hunt in Northern MN last weekend, and progressed every day-- highlights included a long retrieve on a wounded can, and blind retrieve on a woodcock that flushed wild. I love the versatility of this breed and cannot wait for more fall adventures this year.

Nice! Love them Cockers!!!

I bought a field bred American 6 years ago and he is one of the funniest dogs to watch out in the field. Though I will lays be a lab guy, a Cocker will most likely always be somewhere in the mx!

Good Luck!

Egads! Decades-and I mean DECADES- ago we had little Bobby; a big heart wrapped in a little dog. He loved being out and truly believed he was actually a hundred and thirty pounds instead of thirty.

Great little dogs. And of course those fellas on the other side of the Atlantic used them for many many years and I'm sure they still do.

Good for you! Have fun with your pal.
