axman
This summer, I pick up 2 different clam portables, new to me. One is a clam sleeper, the other a 5600. I had planned to get a clam trap link to join them together, but with all best laid out planes I did not know that they were no longer available and difficult to find used. What I looking for is a close pic of one or a dissipation of how one is made, in hopes of making one or having one made. Thanks
Rikkus
You are So In Luck,... I have an extra, custom made one I will sell you,...This year, I bought a 5600 and a 6800; my buddy also bought a 6800, with the idea of hooking these together. When I started looking for the Trap-Link Adapters, all was a major Bummer. I did get one, the #8067. Trying to more was impossible. I did find a #8066, but it is too small. So in June, I put out the call to several canvas shops. One took on the challenge. I just picked them up yesterday, 3 of them. The zippers were very difficult to find, and because of the length, they were custom. The factory version is a bit short on the width, pulling on the canvas. And, you have to setup the portables right next to one another, with not much room for slop. I had the canvas shop add an extra 6-8 inches on the width. They also used a heavier, Ice House Canvas, making them a bit heavier. I wished they had something lighter. Here's the bummer. The target price was $50 - $75. When I picked them up yesterday, $105 each. The 3 cost more than I paid for the two houses. But, our group of three will be enjoying lots of room, and we will all be linked up. Compared to the cost of renting sleepers & houses, we will do better than breaking even. And, we will have freedom to move around. If you're interested, ([email protected]) is the way to contact me,...I tried the new custom piece last night, perfect. It took 4 fittings to get all perfect. Never have used it since my friends don't have the right clams / fish traps to attach to. If you can't find one let me know and I'll part with it.
