dirt292lv
new to this forum so hi to everyone!before i start every post I've found is around 2009 so i just order a new ice castle 2014 leech lake tandem and was wondering if anyone else has one this size and what they would change or make different, i added spray from all the way around roof, walls, floor, and ceiling, as well as extra lights outside, no skylights, ceder, hydro some other little things, i want this ice house to be everything I'm looking for and don't want to regret some things i should have gotten. hoping this thing will be way better then my 7x14 offset is ice has to be thicker what would people say is safe, I used to pull my old house out on 4in. thanks for any help. BigDogRob
I definitely wouldn't pull it out on 4" of ice! Mine is the 17' RV edition and with the extras I wait for 16", but was told I am on the conservative side! I guess I don't like cold water swimming though either. Lip_Ripper Guy
I had my 8x20 tandem out on 10" of good, solid, clear ice last year. This is not a recommendation that anyone else do the same.

dirt292lv
I was going to wait till around 10" to 12", but i decided to keep my smaller one too, so early ice with that one. I like to be one of the first on but use a portable, fish bit better early ice but never good enough to sink a house or go threw. I'll probably wait till i see one my size or a truck out there for my big one. Has anyone had a spray foam vs fiber glass house insulation, i had it complete done just hope it pays for itself. rustysetter
follow what the resorts with ice roads recommend, they won't let you out if it's not safe.
Redlineracer12
I'll wait for 10-12" with my little 6.5x12 wheel house behind the wheeler and 14" before pulling it out with a 1/2 ton. I guess I am conservative.
