Tips for baudette area

Me and a couple buddies are headed up there Oct 11,12,13th. This will be our first trip up there for ducks and have everything for both field and water hunting. Looking for some tips on what amount of birds should we expect to be around? Better field or water hunting? Amount of water that can be hunted such as pot holes? We can get tons of permission as one of us has a grandpa up there who is friends with all the farmers so that shouldn't be a problem.

The entire area around Zipple Bay is stellar. You can always get some shooting inside the bay for both geese and ducks, and the farmland south of the bay should have geese and ducks working some of the fields.

I'd wager they'll be plenty of birds around, but that can change overnight. I'd say a call to Zipple Bay Resort would give you a real time report on what's around.

You'll need to do some scouting to determine where the most opportunity is at.

Thanks for the input. We will get up there late Thursday so won't have time to scout for Friday so gonna hope for the best In a pond out in a field we have permission on. Then scout during

the days. Will post pics of how we do

I live in Warroad and as of today there are still birds around, but I would say that the geese are down from what we were seeing over the last couple weeks. There is a lot of public hunting land up here, so if you don't do well with the field that you have permission to hunt you should have plenty of other options.

Same thing is happening down here in TRF, WV. Appears a lot of the local birds have pulled out over the last week or so. Not much left flying around at all, and doesn't look like much of anything is down from Canada yet.

We need some good cold weather up north to get things moving. Been way too mild so far, even way up north in Canada.

Little bit of a cold front moving through this weekend hope some new birds show up. Got a buddy who goes to school up there and said still quite a few geese around baudette. Is there much for pot holes if we are not having to much luck on our fields?

The problem with the weather that's coming our way is that it's coming from the southwest, not the northwest. Hence, the birds in Canada will continue to feed happily in cut small grain fields, and roost in comfy open marshes until the weather FORCES them to move south. If we get a stiff north wind it would certainly help to push at least a few birds south.

Quack, there are lots of potholes and stockponds scattered around the country up there, but getting permission to sit on them is another story entirely. Again, if I were you, I'd focus my attention on setting up somewhere inside Zipple Bay. There's lot of room in there, and with the weather that's coming, any birds in the area will likely be looking for safe refuge from the storm. I'd wager Zipple would be a good place to be this weekend.
