jighead
Dave ;I own 2 Honda Rancher's and I was wondering about what type of oil should I be using? The salesmen stated that reg Valvaline 10-W 30 would work fine, parts guy stated that this would work but to change it more often. I noticed that Valvaline is making a 4 stroke motor oil designed for wet sump clutch machines. What would be best to use? Honda oil or valvaline? Dave
jighead, the owners manual should say what/if regular "car oil" vescosity is ok to use. I've used 10/40 myself before. But, like you've noticed, four-stroke "ATV" oils are readily available. These four-stroke oils are claimed to have "additives" for wet sump clutches. Even if it costed a couple extra bucks. It's not like you change your ATV oil every month.Personally, I would go with the four-stroke "ATV oil".[This message has been edited by Dave (edited 12-18-2002).]
dnoz
I would recommend Amsoil 4 stoke oil. It is synthetic which is nice in the real cold weather.

pikechaser
I would have to agree--my father in law is a amsoil dealer and we have run it in our machines for years and have never had a problem
