randerson
Now that these have been on the ice a few years what do you think of the all aluminum anyone experiencing and cracks or bends in the frame Thinking of getting a small house and finishing it my self 6x12 with a ramp door to use as a enclosed trailer camper in the summer. I take it they have fixed there cable issues they had when they were new to the industry.
mmartin
No regrets here. Haven't noticed and cracked welds or anything like that. Only thing that I could be seen as an upgrade would be a higher quality door.
traveler
Yeah...the doors suck. I don't have a Yetti, but a very similar unit with the exact same doors, and I've had problems from day 1. I think maybe the alum body flexes or something, but the doors have never latched right, and pop open on thier own (or did, until I added addl latches). On the plus side...no other issues, and it pulls and fishes great. I haven't done much finishing to mine...just rubber flooring and a little wood framing for hanging things on.
randerson
I had a Grand Lodge and never really had any issues but sold it a few years back now think about going a bit smaller since it was generally just myself and one more
walleye-
I have had the 8x16 for three years now the only two issues were the roof that came on it was to thin and had a bulge in it so I called them on it and they replaced it with a thicker 7/16 roof and that is what they put on all of them now. Also the axles were toed a bit off so the tires outside edge went bald. Called them and they knew of the problem and so I brang it up to there shop again. They fixed it within 2 hours and I was on my way with two new tires and they were nice enough to give me two more new tires on aluminum rims for spares. I was impressed they did that I only asked to have one of my old ones back for my inconvenience. Would have to say they are easy to deal with and stand behind there house. Haven't had any other problems. The door hasn't been to bad on mine only the normal ice biuldup when its below zero out. I don't know of anyone with a fish house that hasnt had an issue with the door unless they have a house exterior door.
mmartin
The only issue with the door that I see is it could be insulated better. When the sun shines on it you can almost see right through it. Never had problems with it not shutting, some ice build up yes, but frame shifting no.
Redlineracer12
Never had any issues with my Yetti door, but the double doors in the back are kind of cheesy. I think if I did it again I would have sprung for the ramp door. At the time I thought it might be nice to be able to go in/out either door(and it is sometimes), but the majority of the time I use the side door anyways and the ramp door I think seals up better when closed. Also, I thought I would haul my wheeler more than I do. Almost never bring it though as it's just a pain to move it in/out of the house to get it out of the way. Usually if I want to buzz in to a resort or gas station I will take the truck anyways, warmer and easy to disconnect. I finished mine myself, think about what you're going to be doing with it very well when you're planning out the interior. I really like mine, but there are things I would do differently if I finished another one. I kind of wish I would have gotten a bigger house, but at the same time I love my 6x12 and can sleep 3 adults in it even though it gets a bit cozy. We only get about 10 mpg pulling mine (Chevy 5.3 or Ford 5.4) in the winter even though it's easy to get it up to 55-60mph because it's lightweight. It just starts to be a huge wind drag any faster and sucks the fuel down accordingly. I have gotten 13mpg with my V6 manual transmission 1/2 ton in the summer, but it's a workout for it to keep it moving 75mph. For this reason I think if I was primarily going to fish one lake all the time, it might be wiser to build a nice skid house. You can build it bigger/wider since you don't need to haul it (get rid of that 'hallway' feeling), it's cheaper since it can be almost entirely wood construction, and it's already at the lake you want to fish so it's that much less money to drive up there and use it. I guess ideal scenario would be to have both! I kept mine at a resort on Mille Lacs this summer and it's been worth every penny to have a little room at a resort basically that I can run up and use anytime I want.
