low277
I have looked at both FRP ( fiberglass reinforced panel ) and plastic wall sheeting panels for the inside of a fish house. Both are very thin, maybe 1/8 inch max, do you install this over a 1/4 plywood panel? Also is one better than another? for impact resistance? cleaning? Thanks
Hawg
If the plastic you speak of is whats called milkboard it definatly needs backing. I always thought it would be the perfect interior because it's very white and bright. I had it on the ceiling of a 6x8 and it really brightened up the house. It's not real attractive but it's clean looking and very easy to clean gunk off of. It shatters pretty easy if you need to cut lights or wiring boxes into it also. I've never looked at the frp's much.
low277
If anyone has used either of these type products I would be interested in what you think about them. Also is expansion/contraction a concern with these panels?
cold one sd
I have had FRP panelling in my 6 1/2'x12' wheelhouse since 2006 with no problems at all. It isn't backed by anything and is screwed to the framework. I have had no problems with expansion or contraction, but it is installed using joiners that allow for this. Around the edges I used white 100% silicone between the walls and ceiling. I believe it was $42 for a 4'x8' sheet when I bought it. Not cheap, but it seems to hold up very well for me. low277
Thanks for the reply Cold One, I was thinking of using this on the bottom 2 feet of the walls which may get wet or fish slime and possibly some on the ceiling. I had thought about gluing the stuff on with a PL type product.
cold one sd
The entire interior of my wheelhouse is done with FRP. I'm sure it would work well for the bottom two feet and ceiling of your fish house. As far as using PL I really can't answer you.
leech~~
I have looked at both FRP ( fiberglass reinforced panel ) and plastic wall sheeting panels for the inside of a fish house. Thanks I think a lot of people confuse what they think the paneling they use is. I worked in Fiberglass Mfg for over 20 years and made everything from urinals to Bass Boats. FRP stands for (fiberglass reinforced plastics) not paneling. Most fiberglass companys will use it to make things like boats but there wouldn't be much money in it for them just to make flat 4X8 sheets out of it because of the cost to make it. FRP Mfging has some very high costs to it because of the resin's used and the hazardous rules and cost of it make it very hard to compete with companies that can form flat sheet plastics. The other down side and you would know if you had real FRP panels is the smell that just doesn't go away with it inside an inclosed small box like an ice house! cold one sd
I see it seems to usually be glued to some type of backing. Mine seems to have no problems with no backing. I noticed they sell FRP glue also.
