WishnIWsFishn
Just wondering if anyone could help me with a decoy question. This morning there were no geese flying... finally this afternoon we saw 2 small flocks... a bigger flock... and a loner. We were fishing the river, and not a one goose even bothered to take a look. They just stayed on the main river channel and headed North towards Clearwater. I only have 6 floaters out right now because I figured they wouldn't be doing much flocking yet, but I still figured I would get a look. At first I had a horseshoe shape and than switched to almost a straight line after the first two flocks. Just wondering if there has been any luck with a certain spread... as in more decoys...less decoys... and the way the spread should be laid out? Any suggestions? Thanks and good luck hunting!! fishuhalik
Just make it look natural. Do you typically see geese in a straight line or a horseshoe? Usually when they're relaxed, in the spot they're gonna roost, they're just chillin in a little group. If possible, you might wanna add a few more dekes. Maybe 2-3 groups of 6-8 dekes. With that being said, geese are habitual critters & it can be real hard to pull em into a new roosting area or field they aren't used to. booger
If you aren't where they want to be, the amount of decoys won't matter. Sometimes you can pull in a single then but I'd say that is maybe 50/50. I'd venture to guess that most birds still aren't flying yet.
