low277
has anyone used the plain white square corner doors similar to the ones sold by f++h h++se s+++ly in buffalo?the guys that have condensation / freezing problems, will a fan blowing on the door help cure that problem? Thanks
Hawg
If you don't have a vented heater you'll have problems with a metal door. Fans help but that much moisture will form ice. With a vented heater you'll be better but I still had some ice buildup wherever slight amounts of air got thru. What floors me is how much they cost. I bought my last one a few years ago at the Sauk Rapids Unclaimed Freight place where they sell a ton of fish house stuff for $100. What can possibly make these up to 3x more? fishkins
Prices are tempting on those non-vented heaters but they sure cause alot of problems, no to mention HEADACHES... Spent a couple days atLOW in a shack with one and we were ALL 3 complaining of headacheswhen we left.
low277
I wont use a unvented heater in a permanent house.I just found out that I can get a outswing exterior door from at least one of the big box lumber places for around 150 dollars.I may have to look into that. Lip_Ripper Guy
I'm pretty sure I have that same door. Mine came from Lakewood Lodges in Brainerd, drop shipped direct from the factory. It is ok, but could definitely be better. I covered as much of the exposed aluminum frame with foam weather stripping, which keeps the condensation to a minimum. It is fairly air tight.Last fish house had the camper door with the screen. Absolute junk. It would be fine for spring, summer, and fall, but not winter.A fan might help a little bit, but it isn't going to get rid of the problem. Hawg
LOW, can you let me know which lumber yard had the outswing door for $150. At Men---ds they start about $225-250.
low277
Try this....http://www.lowes.com/pd_19988-77999-19988_0__?productId=1057369http://www.menards.com/main/mastercraft-...8355-c-9356.htm
low277
I may not have enough height to install one of these, I wonder if the jam could be taken apart and both it and the door shortened a few inches?
Lip_Ripper Guy
Looks like the hinges are on the outside of the door?
Hawg
LRG, one of the reasons outswings usually cost more is because they use permanant hinges that you cant pull the pins on. At least thats what the H-Depot guy told me and the sills are better draining, didn't understand that one though. Isn't 6ft 10 1/2in the rough in needed for a real door? low277
The pictures are not the greatest for details. I did read somewhere about permanent hinge pins. I will have to check on them the next time I get to Grand Forks, ND.
jentz
The reason these doors are costly is because they are speciality doors.Standards are 80 inches in height. They have blocks set for door knobs, the styles are only 1 & 1/4 inch thick.Unless you get a solid wood door.Exterior hinges are not perminent,When you open the door and expose the inside of the hinge,You'll find a set screw that has to be removed then the pin will extract. Any door not 6'8" has to have the manufacture reset their jigs for doors,Jambs.Takes time and probably not produced in numbers Unless you manufacture mobile homes, trailor homes,Ice shacks etc. If a exterior hinge has no set screw and a fixed pin its probably a cheap hinge!! Hawg
I guess the point was you can't just pop the pins out from the outside. Once in the house I dought anyone wants to take the door off. I understand what you're saying though but these are no where near the quality of real doors.
