Long Gray Line
My b-in-l I and are sitting in the boat, we've dropped a few and are making sure we have a solid count and know where the birds have drifted with the wind. He says we have 8 down and proceeds to show me where he sees them. I say we have 9 and show him the extra. He says no, it's only 8 and it must be lily pad turned up in the wind. We go over the shoot and can count only 8 birds that we know we downed. So, we decide to call it quits, pick up the dekes and start picking up birds. 1, 2, 3.....7, 8, 9!! #9 turns out to be a timberdoodle that must have committed suicide by following in the teal he ended up floating next to and managed to make himself a 'double'![This message has been edited by Long Gray Line (edited 10-03-2004).]
fishface5
It was a wilsons snipe. They look almost exactly alike. Duck, Snipe, Canvasback, Id... ? oops! Eyes open boys.
Long Gray Line
Fishface, the teal he was following came in straight and low over the water right at us into the wind. We never saw the bird behind him and he just got caught in the shot string. I do know duck types and can tell a duck from a snipe AND it was during legal shooting hours so please don't imply differently. It was just a funny accident....
