Location:

St. Croix Plant

Park Falls , WI

Description:

The Custom Rod Builders Guild and St. Croix Rods

"BYOB"

12th Annual Get-Together August 15, 16, and 17, 2013

Park Falls, Wisconsin

Billy Vivona will headline another great weekend of fun, fellowship, learning, and sharing at America's premier rod building facility, St. Croix Rods in Park Falls, Wisconsin. As always St. Croix rolls out the red carpet treatment, opens its doors, and shares its knowledge and expertise with us. The Guild is extremely grateful for the wonderful working relationship we enjoy with the owners, management, staff, and employees of St. Croix as they invite us back year after year. It is evident that they are proud of their company and the rods that they build. The Park Falls High School and staff welcome us every year also and we are grateful to them also.

Last year we held our first eight hour "hands-on" events. The Rod Building 101 courses for beginning and inexperienced rod builders were extremely successful again. The participants were also very pleased with the hands-on cross-wrapping, weaving, and wood turning classes. Those classes will be repeated again this year but in addition we will have some shorter classes and some large group presentations. We will try to have as many hands-on presentations as possible.

We are now planning the courses to be offered this year with the help of Billy Vivona, our guest presenter and teacher. Billy will provide many new ideas and concepts to the event. We welcome him with open arms and eager anticipation.

More large group presentations

An opportunity for some mini-courses and techniques

A St. Croix factory tour

A "Build Your Own Blank" Program

A gigantic St. Croix factory sale

A free spouses program

A rod builder showcase

Two evening meals and two luncheons and better yet, builders under 18 are free!

ALL FOR ONLY $30.00! A Fantastic Bargain!!!

And one more thing. We are asking each participant to bring an item or items for the raffle again.. The better the items you bring the better the raffle.

what's this "build your own blank" thing about?

As part of the St. Croix factory tour, a limited number of rod builders can sign up to participate in a detailed step by step viewing of how blanks are created. The rod builders have gotten to tack a pre-peg flag of graphite material onto a steel mandrel in the BYOB sessions that I attended in the past. The whole experience is very educational for any rod builder with the factory tour by the St.Croix employees standing out as a highlight.

I have been ready to go since I got back from last year. It is a good time and you learn something new every year. I think I will leave credit cards, check book and alot of cash at home this year. It is to much fun buying things there.

Smoker,

Seeing how you went last year I have a question for you.

There is a line item on the registration form for $45 for PrePaid Special St. Croix Blank. What is this about and how is this different than the blank sale they have on Saturday?

It is for the same sale. You can prepay for the blank or you can pay for it then. Last year if you prepaid you were one of the first ones in line to pick a blank. I think there were 4 differant blanks last year. St. Croix will have there sale on Friday where they have second blanks on sale for the Guild members. Sometimes they have alot and some years they have more than alot. It is a good time and there is always something new to learn.

I think there might still be room, I dunno. Other grip presentations that I will have: trim rings, ellipticals, checkerboards (several methods), random segments, and image inlays.

I should have a bit of free time, so it'll be fun with the unscheduled chats and talks. MArk Blabaum and Bob Hasbrook (who I've never met) are 2 other grip masters who will be there, possibly Don Oehlke who just completed a dozen INSANE rods and posted them in The NERBs group on FB.

It's going to be a really good time and super informative for those who make it out there.
