Rubbercore sinkers better for line than split shot?

I overheard a conversation at a get together between two individuals were one told his friend that split shot weakens line and rubber core is better. Has anyone had this problem with splitshot? Is what he was saying correct?

In theory, yes, but I have never had a problem. I think it is worse on mono and fluoro lines, than super braid and Dacron. I have never had line break at a weight, the most common place for me seems to be about 1" above the knot, but I rarely break line anymore.

I have had no problem with split-shot when using braids or super line but have had my 8# mono break numerous times right at the split shot!

I think that the newer split shot is an alloy and not pure lead like the older stuff. Cuts your line if you crimp it on to tight!

I should note I only finger tighten splitshot, as there is no need to "crimp" them. I only buy lead weights, I tried some of the "green" kinds like bismuth and some others, but I ended up chucking the whole thing out the boat. They are 1/2 the weight for the same size, hurt your teeth if you need to bite them open, and far too many break because they are brittle. The theory that lead is bad for the wildlife is a lie, used for California propaganda against firearms.

I never really "crimp" my split-shot either but they still cut the mono!

I buy only lead shot also!
