royalwolf
Okay, so I've done some duck hunting, but I've always let the other guys call em. I may do some on my own this year and need to get my own call. I'm off to Honker Hill tomorrow. What brand/type/etc. would you guys reccommend? I realise practise is involved. I know nothing about what to get and there's lots to pick from -- what should I look for? Thanks all!
Ely Lake Expert
I have used the primos original wench for the last few years and I like it. I don't think it is very expensive either. Ryan
Seabass77
The wench is a great call to start with. So is the Haydels DR-85. Both relatively easy to blow. Good huntin calls. They are both double reeds. A single reed will be more difficult to learn but will give you a bigger range. There are lots of good calls out there. Check out the RNT quackhead for a single reed. Another good option is the RNT hunter. You can usually find it packaged with a instructional CD for around $50 bucks. Great sounding call.
huntnfish
I agree with seabass about the DR-85. It is one of the best meat calls made and you can pick one up for around 15 bucks. The Quackheads also sound very good. If you can go to a store and try one out or have someone there try one you can see how they sound and how you like them. I have many others that also sound good, but there was a lot of tuning involved to get them to sound like they do. To blow the calls just say "ant" and be sure to use your diafram to push the air, not your cheeks. Keep your cheeks tight like you would when you whistle. To get a little more raspy simply do a little growling while blowing the call, like you would if you were blowing a kazoo.
