New graph and trolling motor question

Picked up a HB 998HD SI/DI unit and a Terrova with the I-Link.My question is, do I have to do anything on the graph to recognize the motor? The cable between the graph and the motor is connected but the graph isn't getting the feed back. I tried to mark waypoints on the graph and GOTO with the remote for the motor. Remote said no way points. Also, manual says the two arrows at the top of the remote will be highlighted when it recognizes the graph. Needless to say my two arrows don't light up. What am I missing? Is it something simple stupid? New toy frustrations. Thanks

I would guess that your new 998 doesn't have the proper software version needed torun the link. You need to register your bird and Terrova with Humminbird and minnkota and get both updated with the newest software.

You want 6.680 software. Follow the directions to a T when updating the Humminbird . Restore defaults before you update AND again after you update. You can check your 998 current version by turning it on, at the first prompt,( press menu for startup options) press menu while that screen is up, then select "system status" and a diagnostic screen will come up that will show you SN # hours and current software version.
