Ceiling Fans

Recommended Posts

I have a couple in my house and used them in my rental units. I've had good luck with them; I haven't had to replace any yet in the 6 or 8 years I've had them. Once I had to replace a switch, but that's the only trouble. I originally bought them because they are cheap and not a big deal from a cost point if one goes bad. I've been pleasantly surprised!

5 for the basement? Are you trying to get the house to lift of it's foundation? smile... I too have Hunter fans in all bedrooms and the living room. 4-12 years old and no issues.Very quiet and well balanced fan. and the price is good too...

The Hunter fans are generally the same fans as you buy from casablanca, Fasco and Emerson. They were the only american made fans for years and those fans were big, cast iron models that needed to be periodically oiled. Like everything else they have moved manufacturing to Asia and they are built to similar quality and specs as the competition including no oiling the motors and similar lifespan.

What you want to look for is motor size in amps. To cut cost some are made with undersized motors and to make up for the lack of power they reduce the blade pitch meaning they move less air per revolution. I forget the blade pitch to look for but look at the box and buy one that has the bigger amp motor. it will cost more but move more air.

I bought some higher end fans from MinkaAire a few years ago and installed them in my house. My uncle used to own his own light and fan store, and convinced me to step up. In all honesty, I can't see the difference relative to the premium that I paid. I'd stick with the big box store fans. The most important things, as stated above, are to make sure that you've got a fan-rated box in the ceiling and to make sure that you've got everything nice and tight. Wobbly fans suck
