mrpike1973
hi noticed today my 25hp 1977 evinrude tends to smoke alot at idle or slow trolling wide open fine. then when you slow down it smokes alot i mix all my gas 16 oz to 6 gallons evinrude oil. i noticed the exhaust on this one is not through the prop exhaust is this why? my 15 hp motor smokes a little but not this much and that one is through the exhaust i had the compression tested when i got it dont remember the numbers but they were good i'm i just to worried other wise runs like a top thanks
highlife4me
If you don't like smelling two stroke exhaust and fouling spark plugs you could try using Amsoil's outboard oil. I only use 8 - 10 ounces for 6 gallons of gas. Been using Amsoil for 13 years and I still have the original plugs in the motor.
boatfixer
A couple things to consider. Idle mixture is too rich and you may need to adjust it. The cold water temps-engine might not be getting warm enough. Correct spark plugs.
mrpike1973
thanks boat fixer never thought about the water being cold, the plugs are correct. i believe the mixture is set good when i had my solenoid relay replaced. i asked them to check the idle thanks its probably the water temp i hope. thanks basically i'm just worried the motor is bad. bad insides but it seems to run to good for that thanks just nervous just got it and my track record with good luck isnt the greatest hee hee
