mrpike1973
today i was out on my boat and hit a dead head. i believe the motor reved up and i stopped asap. there appeared to be no damage. started driving it again and it would run good for a minute at wot then rev up and go no where. i brought it to the marine place they looked at it and said the props are meant if they hit something some times it will spin the prop to save the gears this sound right? i really trust these guys they said the gears seem ok and if there was a lower unit problem it would most likely jump out of gear or make noise iv'e only had this motor out 2 days ran great till the dead head this sound correct

boatfixer
If I'm understanding you correctly, it will go fine then rev up/lose speed. #4 is the bushing/hub. You can use a marker and make a mark across the hub and prop. Run it. Then look to see if the marks are still lined up. If not, the that bushing/hub is shot, time for a new prop
