Structure scan black box

Recommended Posts

I just got my new structure scan the other day and I am having trouble deciding where to mount my box... I have a 14' with bench seats. I'd like it in an out-of-the-way place but nothing is jumping out at me. I was thinking of bolting a piece of ply to the sidewall, but I'm worried about a wave coming over the side. Does anyone know if its alright to mount them flat on the floor? It says nothing about this in the book. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I would mount it on the side of the bench. If you mount it on the floor, and you boat is like most 14ft boats that have a small leak or don't have a bilge pump it will be submerged in water depending on the boat.

I agree. I wouldn't mount it on the floor.

Lowrance says the box is waterproof but I still wouldn't put it on the floor where besides the possibility of being submerged you could drop stuff on it or kick/drop stuff on the connectors.

Backside of a bench seat perhaps?

Have a lot of fun with it!

Yeah, I figured it is a little spendy to be putting on the floor. I ended up bolting a piece of ply to the side of my bench then screwing the box to that. Now comes the fun part, hiding my wiring. I thought I would just throw this in, but it is taking me a while to get this all done without running cables all around the back end of my boat!!
