That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. What's their reasoning behind this?

They typically do a lot of their stocking this week. Some of the old school thought was to give the fish time to disperse so the bridges wouldn't be a shooting gallery of shoulder to shoulder anglers.

Laws are being revisited, but I"m not sure if this one week break will change.

The WiDNR should just stand at the bridge and hand out trout to anglers on opening day. Will help lower the amount of crawler containers, lure wrappers, and 100s of feet of 20# mono that often are found scattered around the holes favored by the "neoprene army".
