2000 motorhome with a ford e450 chassis speedo problem

Recommended Posts

Having problems with the speedometer not operating but the odometer is still working fine. Also the abs light is on. I tried to google the problem and it pointed me to the vss in the rear end. Anyone heard of something like this? Is replacing the vss going to take care of the problem? Thanx for any help.

It may be the sensor but a more common problem is one or both of the wires to the sensor from the main harness broke from flexing back and forth. Remove the wire loomb from around the two wires at the sensor connector annd work your way back to the main harness. If you can't see the break grab the individual wires and litely tug apart each wire. It may be a possibility that you may need a new connector pigtail.

Is this a diesel engine? Does it have the 4R100 tranny? If so, the VSS should be on the tail shaft of the transmission. If this has a gas engine, or a 4R70W tranny, then it uses the one on the rear diff

Being you have an ABS light on, this tells me that more then likely the ABS module isnt getting a good signal either, chances are is you check codes in the PCM, you will find a P0500. If so, I will agree with Johnbigdog. If there isnt a P0500 in the PCM, then it is possible the IC is bad.
