March Snows

Well the food plots put in last fall are paying off in spades after this last snow. Deer, turkey, grouse and pheasants were all viewed in the fields getting some much needed nutrition. Without the food source, many of these animals would be in trouble. It's been a long winter, lots of snow and ice in January. The only redeeming factor is we have not had a lot of cold.

My buddy and I are going to rally up at the farm to lay out a plan for this years projects and hopefully relieve the land of a song dog or two. Time to start posting up ideas and questions. Let's all work together and get some more high quality habitat out there!

Hey Ken,

Are you talking about the OTC property?

I am up here right now, man lotsa snow. And no food left in my plots. Bad crop last year with the lack of rain the latter half of summer.

Not a lot of deer sign, but hard to judge that since it just snowed a few days ago, and the winds today cover stuff up fast.

Working on plans for all the spring stuff. 2600 trees to be planted, 8 acres of corn and beans, couple acres of clover, hinge cutting, repair field equipment(again), repair/update rifle stands, and whatever else rears its head... which is usually several unforeseen things.

Hey Mark... Yeah we were talking about paying Hooke Monday. May wait one more week... We are taking over all the food plot work. Mike bought a new tractor so we have to lay out the schedule of who, what and when...

I'll give you the rundown after we get back... We need to figure out which of the plots they hit the hardest over the winter so we can concentrate the corn and sorghum on those...

We'll have to meet up for a beer this spring when we re up!
