In 96 or 97 they were ice fishing up here on LOTW on opener.

I've seen floating ice on the opener on the big water in the north but never where you could stand on it and fish. This would be the year though. The long term forecast shows no significant warm up in sight.

Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake ice went out on May 18 of 1996. Looking as if this could be the case again this year.
