Decided to get the lx7 yesterday it is a fun unit to fish with. I am wondering if the zoom can be put on the flasher mode or is that always full water column and vertical zoom is your option for zoom? Have not monkeyed with all the settings yet. Used it for a few hours yesterday.

Hamms, you have two zoom options, column or chart zoom. The flasher display is only full column.

Just an FYI, but you can set your zoom domain outside of your selected range if desired. For example, you can fish in 19' with the range set to 10' reading the top of the column and then use a 10' zoom to read the bottom part (with a small overlap). This works great when using the dual showdown style view to maximize the units display ability, particularly awesome fishing suspended fish.

I have found that if you just have the round flasher display with nothing else on the screen you don't need zoom. It's a HUGE circle!

Fishwater that had crossed my mind lots of options very cool to pick display you want. I thought it was detailed already but with 3.17v It will be even better. Love that you can stay current with added features as they come,never outdated.

The only thing is, the idea of always have the newest and best with the ability to upgrade is going to be a myth. Marcum will eventually stop pushing this unit as it moves to the back of it's technology pack, and don't expect upgrades to continue. That's like expecting new games to come out for Nintendo 64. As fast as the technology world advances, the LX-7/9 won't remain on top for very long.

Very true, I will enjoy the ride. I wouldn't hesitate to say there will be more to come out for this unit. They are never idle at Versa.
