Strikemaster Magnum Problem

Well I was out drilling holes with me Strikemaster Magnum this afternoon and half way through a hole my auger stopped turning and the powerhead started to make a rattling and grinding sound. I pulled that auger out and shut it off. I started the auger up and it starts and runs fine. If I hit the throttle it turns fine until I put any downward pressure on it then it rattles/grinds and the auger stops spinning. Did I strip some gears? Any other idea what the issue would be?
