JSK76
Heading to Whitefish and this year I'm thinking of just tying right to my Sufix Ice brade and not using a mono leader. Right now I have a spool of neon lime but could return it for Gost (white) or low-vis green (dark grean). Considering how deep you fish and the snow and ice cover do you really think a mono leader is needed and if not does the color of the line matter? I have a friend that summer fishes rainbow trout with black braid from shore on very clear lakes and he out fishes me with mono!
Huey
I would use a mono leader. A buddy of mine catches lake trout with his dark superbraid (not sure what brand) tied directly to the hook on tip-ups. So you do not need a leader.I think that the fish can be line shy so I use a flourocarbon main line or leader when lake trout fishing both summer and winter.Do whatever gives you confidence. JP Z
On my live bait rigs I generally use a fluoro or mono leader. But when I'm jigging I don't always use one. But yep confidence is key with Lakers, heck with anything.
