Cold weather E-Caller battery drain - Coyotes

Recommended Posts

Was out this morning White Bear Lk area, Minneapolis, MN. Placed E-Caller out 40 yards on top of swamp grass. Brand new Energizer batteries x8. Temp 4 F. Unit stopped running in 5-7 min. Used mouth call uneventfully. Back to truck, put in new warm batteries, stuck a sticky Body warmer over the battery door. (You know the ones from F.F. disposable, shake em up). E-Caller could of gone all day. Went home and wrapped caller in camp cloth. Now all i do is stick one of those hand warmers under the cloth next to the battery door and cold weather beat. Rookie lesson #1 learned. Never hunted this cold, except deer near Baudette, MN. Im new to Coyote hunting, but not to hunting. Anyone in the Mpls/St Paul Minnesota area willing to team up, speak up, let me know! E-Caller is Wilderness River Apache with remote.

I use a FOXPRO with rechargeable energizer batteries and have never had a problem with cold affecting my caller. I have two sets rigged up and every day we plan to go out I recharge both sets and alternate the sets. I put the caller inside a facemask, white or camo depending on when I'm hunting. Never had to use the second set during all nighters and the batteries last several years.
