What decoy weights work best for standard size decoys without the long neck? I just recieved a dozen G & H dekes for my B-day and not quite sure what to use. I was planning on using lead straps but I don't think those will fit around the neck.

Also, based on your suggestion...what do you do with the weight after you wrap the line around the keel.

Thanks for the help guys...new to duck hunting.

seabass,
sounds like you're starting to get all of your supplies down!
i saw a super method on the outdoor channel called "texas rigging". i would imagine it would work with just about any weight style, although preferably shallow water. here's how it works.......
tie the weight to one end, and slip the cord through the hole in the decoy....don't tie it to the decoy! pinch a small washer or something else equivalent to the other end of your line so the line won't slip through.
i rigged 1-1/2 doz. deeks up like this with about 4-5 ft. of tangle proof line. you can draw about 6 deeks together, tie a knot in the line for storage, untie the knot and throw 6 decoys out at a time. the weighted end sinks by itself and when you're done hunting, you string 'em up the same way!
hope my directions weren't too confusing! it's really very basic. i'm surprised no one thought of it sooner. tangle-free line is the ticket. other lines would be tough to get the knot out.
shoot 'em up!
