Recommended GPS for fishing??

Bureaucrat

Question

I'm in the market for a GPS to use only for fishing. I'm looking for recommendations that fit the following:

*Compatible with current map makers

*Fast clicking functionality

*Ease of use

*AA battery power

*Not the egg shaped ones that are dominating the market

*Affordable would be nice, but i'll pay for a good one

*Strongly prefer one with buttons vs touch screen

Not sure what you mean by "egg shaped". Or "fast clicking".

As has been posted 200 times already on these forums and elsewhere, the garming 62 series are the best handhelds available right now. They meet every criteria you mention except maybe the "egg shaped" thing and they come with a variety of features for varying prices. Go check them out.

Do a search for "GPS" in here and in the ice fishing forum and you'll find countless reviews. Use google and you'll find even more.

The 62 is nice. The only comment I will make comes to me second hand so take it as you will. A friend owned one and he found the location of the buttons near the bottom to be a pain, especially if trying to use it one-handed with heavy gloves on. You are not able to hold it real well due to the location of the buttons and the risk of dropping it is higher. He changed to a GPS76, which is now replaced by the GPS78. This too is my favorite right now. Both are great so check them out.
