Mississippi River Pool 8 & 9

Getting some great reports from the Mississippi River. Guys are fishing Dersbach Lock and Dam are reporting perch, as well as the Stoddard Islands, and Petibone Park.

Stoddard islands have been the best perch producer over the weekend. Best bite is at the crack of dawn, and just before dark.

Been hittin some perch the last couple of days, pool 8.

Finicky, but caught quite a few. Variety of baits worked, but the bigger fish preferred minnows.

Some more bluff country perch on pool 8. Was out all afternoon and the bite was tougher than last week. Caught a lot of fish but most were small. Small crappie minnows still outproducing anything else, especially in regards to size. Very windy and warm, and the ice surface is getting sloppy, bring cleats and rubber boots if ya got em.

we went fishing just outside LaCrosse today. Ran into nonstop perch action for about 3 hours. At no point were all three tip downs in the water. Sad part is very few of any size. Doesn't matter we were c/r fishing for a good time anyways.

Started the day up on some private reservoirs up in Cranberry land (Warrens area), had high hopes but it was dismal. Came back into town and down to Stoddard area for the late afternoon. Was pretty slow, caught some gills but mostly small. Will be heading farther south in the morning most likely.

Tried a couple of Pool 9 backwaters this morning. Pretty slow. Managed a few gills in the first (3 fow), and a bunch of extremely small gills, crappies, and perch in the second (6-9 fow).

Fished stoddard for about an hour this morning. Couldn't find a bite looking for gills. The perch spot looked like a city of trucks, portables, and people but I didn't feel like joining the crowd so went to Lake Onalaska.

Perch are running under the dams. Pool 9 produced well yesterday and from what I hear its been going for a week + so not much time left I imagine.

Pool 9 again today. Perch bite continues to be good. More small males today, but still lots of bigger fish too.

Chased largemouth yesterday for the first time this year. Still a bit early, landed four lost two. All landed were males 14" or under, slow fished plastics. Pool 8. I hear there is a good smallmouth bite on the wing dams but have not confirmed yet.
