Bite
Whats your thoughts/techniques for pan fish on tip ups? I know box tip ups can be very effective for perch and crappie.
RiverFish
Have you ever used tip downs for crappies? We use them with fairly good success.
Alagnak
You can down size your tip up set up (line/terminal tackle), make sure you have a very free spooling tip up that doesn't freeze up in extreme cold, set them to trip easy and use them for perch, some times get a nice crappie or something if using small minnows and they actually 'take' the bait and not just nip at it like panfish do a lot. But it's usually a lot more effective to just use a second rod with a set line along with your jig rod if you're pan fishing. There are many makes of tip ups you can set just as light as the 'box'- they all just hold the line. It depends on how you set them. The only advantage is that wind won't trip you up. th64
I like a tip up more than a dead stick because I can test another nearby area or depth while I am using my jigging stick.I attach a jingle bell so I can focus on other stuff.Works great
