Rod Blank for Rainy River Stugeon Rod

Recommended Posts

Sorry for the late reply

Lots of variables with this.

1- Are you a tip watcher (watch the rod tip for bites) or a rod holder (hold the rod and feel the bites)?

I prefer glass or composite for tip watching and graphite for holding the rod.

I also like some length. 8' is common in my boat.

The hardest thing to find IMO is a blank with a soft tip for bite detection while providing a good back bone so you don't get schooled by a big girl.

2- what's your budget?

Wolfram,

Thanks for your response...To answer some of the questions...

I am a rod holder, so would like to feel the bite.

I was thinking something in the 8' range, and as I make the yearly trek to the Rainy River for Sturgeon, I would like to keep the blank under a hundred (if possible?)

Thanks again for any advise.....

I would go with graphite than. I have had good luck with crank bait blanks lately.

Look at the Batson CB80M or CB80H. They both have good back bone and a mod-fast action. The tip action on the CB blanks seams to work well for sturgeon bite detection. personally I would go with the CB80H for early post ice season and heavy current.
