Cleaning Jigs

Hey folks,

I was going through my jig boxes, and noticed a few were in pretty rough shape. I recall not too long back someone on here posted to soak them in some Cola. I did.

Boy, let me tell you was that an unpleasant experience! They smelled very strongly of Sulfur, and when they came out they looked moderately more clean, but they stunk so bad and after some washing the smell stayed. Furthermore, a few of the hooks broke after.

I guess in the long run the jigs were done anyway, but I did find it very interesting about the sulfur smell...anyone know what caused that?

Overall I thought it was pretty fun way to retire some old jigs..

I'm going to guess it was vinyl paint and not epoxy. Many companies, especially small ones, don't use the proper vinyls. The epoxy jigs should be ok with the exception of the hooks you destroyed. You must have left them in a while. Coke is some bad stuff.

I did the same thing with mine too. I got the same results. I let mine soak for over 2 hours. I guess when it is time to get rid of the old stuff it is just that time. Anyways it have me an excuse to go out and spend some of that engagement ring money I have been saving up for for something that is just as important. Good luck on getting that smell out I have tried about everything I can think of
