Helping Others Idea

About 15 years ago my wife and I wanted to help a family that was in pretty bad financial shape. We pondered some ideas and under this particular circumstance we decided to go to the grocery store and load up and deliver the food to them anonymously.

We have done this every year around the Holidays for various people. Unfortunately it takes about 1 minute of thinking these days to come up with a family that could need this help. We always try to figure a time that we know they will almost be home for food safety reasons and luckily in Minnesota this time of year the cold works to your advantage.

I'm sure we all give in some ways but this particular way is really fun, you can include your kids in the shopping (obviously don't tell the who you're helping), you are directly helping someone you know, and when sometimes these "anonymous" people share the excitement of being helped this time of the year you yourself will be on cloud nine (we have never been "caught").

Last year the family we did this for told us about what they found on their door and said "we were worried that we wouldn't be able to get any gifts for the kids for Christmas and this gave us some wiggle room to figure something out."

One year we did it for a guy on FM here that we didn't know and lived near us, in that case we had to have him come to our house but the concept was the same.

Just a suggestion on helping others and just like most giving really helping yourself, funny how it works that way.
