I have been looking into buying either the Vexilar FS1000 or the FS2000 DTD. Besides the depth, temperature, and direction, is there really any differences between the two cameras?

Get the 2000, you won't regret your decision. The ability to see which direction, how deep you are, and what the temp is worth every penny.

I found a good deal where I can purchase the FS1000 for $299.99, whereas the FS2000 DTD I have seen to be up to $600... If that is really the only difference, granted the depth, temp, and direction are all very important features that I would love to have, I feel that the FS1000 would be suffice.

Its all about what you are going to use the camera for, really. If you are going to use it for an ultimate scouting tool, having the depth - temp - direction is very crucial IMO. But, if you are just going to use it to plunk the camera down and see fish while your fishing, either will do.

Wow, a $300 difference between the two models certainly has to factor in. I suppose if you're just down viewing with the camera, this is what a lot of guys do when fishing, that direction isn't as big of a deal. But like Jim mentioned, if you plan on using it for scouting purposes, it's really nice to have direction and depth. Best of luck with your decision and purchase.
