Thanks guys you have been a lot of help he is not neutered but the vet said since he is ten now that his testosterone level its going down and that would probably not help. I just talked to my dad and he said I think you knew the answer the whole time. He is right. This sucks

Went through this about 7 years ago, mine was more of a fear aggresion with strangers but doesn't matter still a problem. I look at it this way if my dog bites someone out of the blue and I never seen it comming I'm going to blame it on the dog if I know something is wrong and it happens then it's my fault period. If the dog bites someone in your family thats one thing but if the dog bites someone else and you knew this was going on EVEN in your own house or yard your screwed, you stand the chance of loosing every thing. Even more so now that you have posted this on the internet. It sucks but it's one other part of being a responsible dog owner.

I am wondering if he has an underlying health issue that hasnt been detected. I could see him acting like this towards people other than the primary care giver. He doesnt want to be angry at you because he knows you take care of him.

You are in a tough spot.

With kids around and not feeling comfortable about what how he will react to them that is a dangerous situation.

You certainly dont want something REALLY bad to happen to force your hand either.

Not a fun deal for sure.

Sorry it came to this. Do not question your decision from here on out. You knew the dog, you based your decisions on what was presented to you... You most likely did right by all involved. In the end the dog would not like to be put in the spot he'd been in if he did do harm to someone.

You recieved 10 great years form your pal... that is as long as many labs live. Go forward from here knowing he had a great life with you and you have many fond memories of him.

Godspeed to your Buddy...

Good Luck!

Ken

I have always thought if I took all the good that comes with owning a dog that I must be a responsible owner when something bad comes along. I won’t give you a yes or no answer just that you will know in your heart what the right thing to do. Some things in life are not easy or fair but we have to be responsible and do the right thing.

Good Luck

Just read through all post. Sorry.

My daughter was bit by an older lab as she and I walked past this guy. He lurched out and his owner was unable to hold him back. This happened last winter. Neither of us did anything to provoke an attack. The dog was on a watch list at his vet as I found out. Apparently it had a tumor. Fortunately my daughter was not scarred too badly.

You did the right thing.

Saw that post and figured what it was about.Sorry to hear what you went through. My son-in-law had similar situation. Two weimer's,male and female. The male was a rescue dog.Large blue version. He snapped at a couple people out of the blue. Police visited after second time and he didn't display any aggression. They didn't give him a ticket, merely advised him to keep watch on the dog. One day in the kitchen daughter was fixing chicken and the male turned on the female. Put good bite into her. With a newborn in the house,it didn't take much thought that the dog was going to have to go.Vet agreed, rescue people agreed. It was a tough day for son-in-law to do.He shares your pain.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
