Dakota Shifting hard

Recommended Posts

02 Dodge Dakota, 4.7L. 83k miles.

Over the past month I've had a hard time with the 2-3 shift when it gets hot. It will really slam into gear. It's only the 2-3 upshift and not when cold. I have to drive 10-15 miles in the heat for it to happen. It's really bad when going through neighborhood 30-35mph streets. If I accelerate fairly hard on say a 55mph road where the intent is to get to OD, the shift is still hard, but it won't slam like it will at a slower speed. Slower speeds it really hits hard. I can hear the whole driveline clunking when it does. I've taken to dropping it into 2 when I get into the neighborhood in the evening.

Tranny fluid looks ok, not burned. Level is ok. I dropped the pan and did a filter change on it last fall. No issues or excess material in the pan at that time.

Any chance this is computer related somehow? Or something other than needing a new tranny?

Let me know your thoughts or questions.

Thanks

Gus
