Heartman
4900 miles, used shape. $2000. What do you think - interested in purchasing this ATV. Tires have cracks, handlebars rusted, but everything works fine. All plastic and seat pad solid - no repairs needed. Shifts cleanly - RWD to AWD function switch works w/o any noise/clunk. Brakes ok - worn a bit but ok. Chain drives clean and solid - everything fits nicely snug together in drive sprockets and all.No experience with the 6X6 models, but like the idea of extra traction and box. Winch in front works good too. Looking for opinions on this model over regular 4X4's or any thoughts that might help regarding price/condition/etc. Intended use deer hunting, ice fishing, putting boat in at cabin and general cabin utility use. Thanks to any/all. rundrave
first and foremost these older models are just a constant maintenance battle, not really that they break down more. just a lot of upkeep and some old designs that have been upgraded 2 or 3 times since then. The first thing I would check is the counterbalance oil. It shouldn't be milky in color. If so then check the water pump sealIf it has that many miles there is no way its still on the OEM internals. Check to make sure it has a weisco piston in it. The cast stock pistons will let go and will cause lots of damage. These old 400 motors are great motors with some upgrades but the stock stuff was a ticking time bomb. Then most importantly, the front drive system for the 4x4 (yes it has 6 wheels) is a total nightmare. Its a chain drive (later years upgraded to shaft) I would'nt buy a front chain drive even it was new off the showroom floor, and Polaris gave me a lifetime warranty.Sounds like a potential headache/money pit to me and I honestly think the price is reall high but I am not sure how to price a 6x6.
