Penn No. 9 Line Feeder Stuck

Scott M

Question

Not sure what the problem is, it should just fit in and turn and it's stuck in place. I bought this reel for $20 bucks online (looks like a 1960's or 70s outfit), not really interested in paying big bucks to send it in. I guess I could just get another and sell it. I'm going to try and disassemble it this weekend as a last resort.

Anybody run into this problem? I borrowed a 109 from a friend and took it apart and can't see anything different from mine.

Clicker works, anti-reverse, level wind, drag, etc. it's just the line feeder is stuck in one position so the spool fills up in one spot. I don't think I broke anything on it, I just started reeling in on a cast a few weeks back and noticed the feeder wasn't working.

Part 42, the worm, isn't even turning. That's my problem as far as I can tell.

I can check part 47 (the pawl). Looked to me like it was on there and tight. I do have an extra pawl.

SpecialK do you have experience with these reels?

Scott,

check out part # 45 - the gear that drives the worm. is there teeth missing and the worm won't turn. also look at the bearings (part # 43 and 44) to see if they are stuck. the only thing about the bearings is if they were stuck/froze the spool should not spin. this reel is similar to the Abu Garcias. If you can't figure it out I would be happy to try looking at it. I can't promise anything but I would be willing to try to figure it out. one last thing if eveything is there and in good shape pull it all apart and clean each part and then re grease/lube as you re assemble it. Is part # 47 over tighted so it won't move at all. If you want me to try looking at it PM me and we can set something up.
