Hey everybody I'm looking to get my dad a handheld GPS for fishing for his fathers day present this year. Any thoughts on which model is the best? Also, Lake Master versus Navionics? Thanks!

Cabelas has a Memorial Day sale going on, there are 3 nice Garmins on sale ( Etrex 20, Oregon 450t and GPSMap62s ) from $149, $279 and $369 respectivly, the more expensive ones have larger screens. Team anyone of those up with the Garmin Upper Midwest Fishing Guide lake chip and you've got a great combo. The UMWFG chip so far has had all the same data that my Garmin Lakemaster chips have had, plus you get several other States on this data card too.

If your Dad is a hunter, you can load these up with topo maps ( the 450t has the Topo already built in ) and various other maps too, very veratile devices.

If you have a smartphone the app is as good or better as any of the handhelds.

minus the fact that handheld gps units are waterproof.. and your phone is not.. I love the garmin eTrex series.. I have an older one and the new ones look great! Also there are ways to get just about endless garmin maps for free online wink
