Snakes in musky waters?

This weekend I fished several areas that really looked like some good musky locations, but what ened up happening was alot of northerns following or being caught. If you are fishing n area and start catching and seeing northern do you move from the area because the muskies are non-existant or do you stay and fish this area because the skis are could be there too? Anytime we saw a northern in an area we did not see one musky and vise virsa, if we saw a musky in an area we did not see any northerns... This mainly happened on Bemidji and Cass!

I have had several snakes get munched by big muskies as I was reeling them in. They love to eat them so I have always assumed there is a musky in the area if I am catching snakes. But it is a good bet that the musky has already dined. I've been told by some DNR types that when a big musky wants to eat it only takes 20 to 30 minutes to find dinner.
