Anyone know of any good places for trout streams in the West Metro?

I have never fished eagle creek, but the DNR recommends not taking fish for consumption from there. That being said its not illegal to do so. You can find the article on the star tribune web site. They have put huge efforts into replenishing that stream and bringing it back to life after years of suburban runoff that killed nearly every fish in there. It would be a shame to pull fish from it if it's not ready. Also the article noted that the fish population is low, 100 per mile, but the average size is big

Eagle Creek is at the crossroads of busy Highways 13 and 101 in Savage (Scott County). A self-sustaining but small population of brown trout requires a Special Regulation-- catch-and-release only. Most of Eagle Creek is within publicly accessible land-- the Eagle Creek Aquatic Management Area (AMA) or the USFWS Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge. Notes: 1) lower Eagle Creek can flood when the Minnesota River floods and can also harbor Minnesota-River-origin fish and 2) some consider Eagle Creek small, shallow, and difficult to ffish.

Good to know I didn't look up if it was special regs on c&r. I was just on google earth and followed the river south past Murphy Hannrehan park. I might give it a shot up there but finding an access point other than a bridge looks difficult as the river is mostlY in peoples back yards. Either there or the vermillion this Saturday. I don't have time to run south.

The vermillion is only keep in town by the rambling river park. I know the dnr stocks it with rainbow. The river is also a trophy brown fishery so try to let them go. I work by eagle creek and fished it many times, not many fish there and very shallow water, not worth the effort.

if you are serious about trout and live in the metro, I'd recommend a Wisconsin license. You can get into some good trout streams in half the time that it takes to get down around Rochester.

I hear this stuff about Eagle creek, but even towards the end of the thing near the Buffalo Tap, it's about 3 feet wide and ankle deep.

the river that goes by the bar is NOT a trout steam. Thats part of the credit river water shed.

ahhh, yeah yer right. I always get the credit and eagle creek confused.

Eagle creek is a little west of there. Flows under a railroad bridge just west of hwy 13 and 101 where you used to be able to park and access the rice lake unit of the mvnwf.

Either way, that thing isn't much of a stream either and I'd look elsewhere for consistent trout action.
