Purple martins

I was wondering if anyone knows how to better attract purple martins. We put a martin house up 2 years ago at my dads place on the lake and so far nothing. I was told it was a perfect location but that there just aren't any martins around anymore. Is there truth to that? I remember my grandparents having tons of them around but that was 20 yrs ago. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

I don't have any houses up.My parents have a lot 40+ holes and most of them are full.It gets a little noisy when the little ones hatch. They cover the holes with duct tape in spring to keep the starlings away. If you get starlings you don't get martins.

scaup3 sent you a pm. my martins started to show up this year on 4-2-12. Last year I had 68 breeding pairs. Hope to have 80+ this year. You can also check out the PMCA HSOforum.
