DCICE
Anyone out there making their own wire leaders? I read an article in the latest Muskie Hunter and was wondering if solid welding wire would work here? I just got into chasin' muskies so this may be a lame topic to you all or is it? are the bait shops selling inexpensive or reliable leaders? thanks for any helpdave
AWH
I just started making my own leaders this winter. And for someone with very few skills as far as being handy, I found it to be extremely simple. I did buy a Boggs Tackle Maker which will run in the $50 to $60 range, and I would highly recommend this. It should pay for itself in no time.As far as wire? I went to Mills Fleet Farm and picked up a 30 foot spool of 174 pound test leader wire. I believe it was $2.99 for a 30 foot spool, if I remember correctly. Then just get yourself some high quality swivels and snaps to meet your needs. You'll be making leaders for much cheaper than the ones you can buy in the stores in no time.Good luck!AWH
