Lund79
I am looking to upgrade from my '86 JD 170 clutch 38" deck to either a hydro or zero turn. I have an avg town lot (1/3 acre) but also do some additional residential yards (de-thatching and aerating). I am looking at 38" or 42" deck.Is the zero turn worth the extra cost over a lawn tractor? Is there additional upkeep on ZT mowers? What brands are good? I'm looking at JD, Ariens, Huskvarna.I'm open to all commments and experiences. Thanks in advance. ruapache
After much research I just bought a Husqvarna 24hp Kawie engine 48" cut with fabricated deck and posi traction. Like the smooth running engine and everything about it. Got it at a place in Buffalo Mn best price around more than paid for getting it there. Lund79
I looked at an Ariens dealer and drove the lawn tractor with a 46" deck. I like the 46" over the 42" due to the fact it has a better engine and only $70 more. If I went with a ZT I would be looking at the 42" due to the price.A coworker looked at Toro 42" since it was rated highly in Consumer Reports. He looked at the Ariens and then decided on the Toro after driving both.Keep the comments coming please.
Down2Earth
When your talking one of these throw away mowers (which i'd also probably buy with such a small yard in town) I'd buy which ever one is nearest for parts and service. Another option may be to buy something used that was built to last.
