BIGRED07
I'm looking at a 2001 lund 1650 explorer ss with a 2008 40hp E-TEC on it. I think max rating for this boat is 75. is this enough motor for this boat or is it going to be way underpowered?
harvey lee
I have a LUND Classic 1660 with a 50hp Merc 4 stroke and for 1 or 2 in the boat, I can get up to 32mph which is enough for me.Now, when I have 2 others in the boat, I am short some power. With 3 people in the boat, I should have at least a 60 or maybe a 70hp for just that little bit extra. That added HP will help you plane off sooner and pick up some more mph.Being my boat would be approx the same size as the one you are talking about, with a 40, I think you are going to be short power espically with others in the boat. BobT
I agree. The 40 will be okay until you carry more than one or two passengers.
SkunkedAgain
It's also important to consider the lakes you'll be using the boat on. Even for 2-3 people in that boat, for a small-medium lake it's a fine size. If you're talking MilleLacs or something then it's underpowered for multiple people, fine for you and the dog!
