cliffy
I recently purchased the book, “Time on the water” by Mr. Bill Gardner. I finished reading it last night and I was wondering if any of you other musky hunters have read the book. Basically it’s a true story about a man who leaves his job, moves his family to Wisconsin and fishes an entire season with the goal of getting on of the top ten largest muskies in that particular part of state.I found myself laughing out loud at some of the experiences he goes through during his fishing season. It just reminded me of how darn hard those muskys are to catch and all the trouble and money we go through trying to do so.I would recommend the book to anyone that loves musky fishing. It really gets you geared up for this coming soft water season. Just my two cents…Anyone else seen this book? Does anyone else have a book in mind about musky fishing that they would recommend? Thanks.
TomWehler
I would like to read it also.Have heard good things. Sort of what I did that for real.July 2002, company I worked at for 16 years CLOSED.See ya boy...Moved to the Island, intead of just guiding on weekends and on my vacations I guided MUSKY ALL summer and ALL last summer FULL TIME.NO people, NO CITY dump, just me and the Hounds and Bonnie on the weekends living with Mother Nature.About as close to Heaven I will get while still breathing?Maybe even when I not?Seen a bunch of note worthy things that would make any one laugh until they cry.Way cool. Keep on rock'en! T. PS.Guideman "Ace" did a simular deal about 20 years ago! www.muskytomsguideservice.com
cliffy
Tom:We have never met before but after reading your post and viewing your HSOforum, I must say that I do envy you! I just got into musky fishing the last couple of years and I admit that I am absolutely nuts for those hard to catch monsters! I hear fantastic things about Lake Vermilion and hope to fish it some day in the very near future. Perhaps when I get the chance to fish Lake Vermilion, I will give your guiding service a call. Take care.
Wildlineman
Cliffy,I just bought and nearly finished "Crankbait Secrets" by Joe Bucher. It's a great read loaded with good info. I also have a Pete Maina book, I forget the title right now that also has lots of good info. My next read is going to be Dick Pearsons book "Muskies on the Shield". I've heard great things about it!Good luck,Shayne
TomWehler
Thanks Cliffy.I do have fun.Any time you feel the need just make the call. Any time! Read all you can, keep it simple and remember what works, where and when.Always try to learn something NEW each time out and to Always have fun.Time on the water is your best teacher. Shayne hit it on the head, Mr. Pearson wrote a way, way cool book.Easy read and I keep going back to mine time and again for a Musky Buzz and simply just for fun. Bucher and Mania also do good stuff, as do a host of others, but don't Over due it?To much techno stuff makes for a sticky brain FOG and makes it more work than fun.Bits here, bits there and a hand full of lures and your good to go. Have fun and remember what a good friend of mine tells me offen when I FOG up, "It just fish'en man, it's just fish'en!" Keep on Rock'en!
