Lower Unit Question

Hey all -

I have a 76 Evinrude 25 hp short shaft with a bad clutch dog. It has the through-hub exhaust. I also have a 68 Johnson FD-22M (20 hp short shaft) that is just collecting dust in my garage currently.

I'm wondering if I could pull the lower unit off my Johnson, and put it on my Evinrude - the lower units appear to be of the same design externally ... does anyone know if this is possible?

Double check your 25 model number because they didnt produce the thru hub exhaust until a few years later. OMC used pin drives up into the 80's in that hp range

Either way it's a 76 evinrude 25 hp shrt shaft. Maybe it's not through-hub ... lol I'm pretty new to outboards. I just wanted to know if the lowers were interchangable.
